We will explore the anatomy and mechanics of breathing and its interconnectedness with the autonomic nervous system, diaphragms, psoas muscles, and skin. Participants will learn to recognize the tension patterns and habits that interfere with a natural three dimensional breath. Through refined palpation, we’ll locate the holding patterns and learn techniques for releasing these tensions.
We will practice Somatic and Daoist breathing methods that help retrain the body to slow and lengthen the exhale, coordinate the thoracic and pelvic diaphragms, and breathe three-dimensionally—inviting Qi, or life-force energy, into every cell. These practices are known to stimulate the vagus nerve and activate the parasympathetic nervous system, supporting a slower heart rate, improved digestion, and deeper sleep. Together, we will explore the felt sense of unimpeded respiration: What does it feel like when the bones breathe, when the cells breathe, when the breath becomes so unobstructed that it seems to breathe itself?
